– Computational Linguistics, Uppsala University

The Computational Linguistics Group at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with a special focus on digital philolohy, multilinguality and systems for grammatical analysis of text (in particular dependency-based parsing). The group has a strong empirical orientation and has been involved in the development of a number of tools and resources, such as MaltParser (datadriven dependency parser), HistCorp (corpora and language models for analysis of historical texts), Swedish Treebank (syntactically annotated corpus), the Decode database (resources and tools for historical cryptology) and Swedish Diachronic Corpus.

Uppsala University is a member of two distributed K-centra:

  • Diachronic Language Resources (CLARIN-DiaRes), focused around diachronic text collections, and as a special case of these, historical texts, as well as tools and resources for processing and analysing these.

  • Swedish in a Multilingual Setting (CLARIN-SMS), offering expertise in linguistic processing of text, especially for Swedish and/or when multiple languages are involved. In addition, CLARIN-SMS offers expertise in the application of language technology to Swedish Sign Language.
